What is Ziplining?

Zip lining is an action-filled recreational activity that involves riding a steel cable on a protective seat or a belt between two points and generally on a valley that exhibits spectacular sceneries. Origin of zip lining is highly practical and used in the Himalayas and Alps as a way of transportation and observation in Costa Rica without disturbing the natural environment. Zip lining as a recreational activity is fairly new; it is around since the late 20th century. Today, zip lining is a growing outdoor activity with millions of participants around the world

Cape Canopy tour is situated in a World Heritage Site within CapeNature’s Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve, located in the scenic Elgin Valley. It is a system of cables and platforms that allows guests to explore this previously inaccessible ecosystem, with breath-taking views. This eco-tourism activity not only allows people to enter and experience the Cape-fold mountains at their best, but is also a platform to raise awareness of the beauty of the plant and wildlife species surrounding them.

Construction of Cape Canopy Tour has been done in accordance with strict civil engineering standards. The system was designed and built by a Canopy Tours engineer to ensure utmost safety and client experience. Environmental impact studies are undertaken prior to construction to ensure that the surrounding ecology is not harmed in any way. Strict environmental management plans have been adhered to and the construction of Cape Canopy Tour was carried out with the approval of the Department of Water Affairs & Forestry, the Department of Environmental Affairs & Tourism as well as CapeNature.

The tour consists of eleven thrilling slides, some over 300m long, each ending on a platform constructed on the cliffs and fynbos covered mountain slopes above the Riviersonderend Gorge. A unique suspension bridge between a narrow sandstone ravine high above a spectacular double waterfall is guaranteed to be one of the unforgettable highlights of the tour.

This a fully guided nature experience with a strong emphasis on client comfort and safety. Two trained guides will accompany each group on the 4-5 hour tour. They will provide information about the endemic fynbos and geology of this unique World Heritage Site. Included in the tour is a 4×4 journey through the nature reserve, refreshments on one of the cliff-side platforms.  The tour is suitable for almost all ages (5-75years is the recommended limit) and will operate in most weather conditions.

Situated on the outskirts of the Fernkloof Nature Reserve, Hermanus is a 1.5 hour drive from Cape Town. The Walker Bay shoreline is a world-renowned as a whale watching destination that extends from Grotto Beach to neighbouring Sandbaai. A diverse region home to the rare fynbos purple-bud shrub, the surrounding forests are resplendent with colourful plant life and birds of prey.

Activity
The Tree Top Zipline tour in Hermanus is a two-hour activity that includes 12 platforms with zip lines that range from 20 to 200 meters. Join your instructors at the activity base for a quick safety briefing before kitting up and driving into the forest on a 4X4 quad bike. Each line is fitted with a safe braking system to control your speed – choose to take in the views and glide through the poplar trees or travel at warp speed, it’s totally up to you! The Tree Top Zipline tour Hermanus extends from our mountain and zip lining over a small waterfall ( when we have enough water)  between the Poplar Trees and Canyon. This a memorable experience for any one from the age of 6years and older.

High above the ground (8 to 50 Meters) the 2 guides will allow you to glide from platform to platform with only the local eagles and bird life noise echoing in the forest. Our platforms are high up in the tree canopy with amazing views of the forest.
