SANSA Open Day
SANSA was established with the aim of advocating for the utilization of space and enhancing collaboration in space-centric endeavors, alongside cultivating research in space science, bolstering scientific engineering through the nurturing of human resources, and bolstering industrial progression in space technologies. At SANSA, the focus lies on Earth observation, space science, space engineering, and space operations.
The institute’s endeavors primarily revolve around Earth monitoring for policy formulation, resource management, disaster mitigation, ensuring food security, and safeguarding national interests. Additionally, SANSA furnishes cutting-edge facilities for space weather monitoring, launch assistance, data acquisition, and contributes to the advancement of the local space sector.
Prof Chris Harris Presentation
Stow Professor of Mineralogy and Geology at the UCT Geological Sciences Department, has an illustrious academic background. Hailing from Cumbria, UK, he obtained his DPhil in Geology from Oxford University in 1982. Throughout his career, Professor Harris has been deeply engaged in research concerning the application of stable isotopes in fields such as igneous petrology, hydrology, and economic geology, showcasing his dedication to advancing scientific understanding in these domains. Join us for the First Friday Artwalk, a delightful event that forms part of a global initiative to democratize access to art and galleries. On the first Friday of each month, galleries in the heart of Hermanus extend their opening hours until 8 pm.
Grab a map from any gallery, meander through the village streets, savor a glass of locally produced wine, and immerse yourself in the astonishing array of art and craftsmanship on exhibit. Whether you’re seeking an investment piece by a renowned South African master or a charming porcelain bowl at an affordable price, our galleries have something to suit every budget and taste.

Join the Kujira Bonsai Kai, the first official bonsai club in Hermanus. This Bonsai club is inviting everyone interested in bonsai to the club’s monthly meeting. One of the members will give a talk on the five basics styles of bonsai. Beginners are welcome. Please bring your tree if you need guidance or assistance.
